What is assessment? Assessment is the processes used to collect information about student progress toward educational goals. The particular form of an assessment depends on what is being assessed and on uses to which results of the assessment will be applied. Assessments can range from small-scale assessments that teachers use in the classroom to obtain day-to-day information about student progress; through medium-scale assessments that school districts use to evaluate the effectiveness of schools or educational programs; all the way to large-scale assessments that state or national bodies use to assess the degree to which students have met large educational goals. Why is it a tedious task? Regardless of the type of assessment, there exists a need to create, conduct and manage the assessment. This is achieved using all manner of methods, tools and techniques.
