While the capital of Michigan is Lansing, the largest city is Detroit. The total population for Michigan is 9.9 million. This state was admitted to the Union in January of 1837. Some of the Native American peoples who lived in this region before the arrival of European settlers were the Chippewa, Potawatomi, and Ottawa. Geographically, Michigan is comprised of two peninsulas, and the states which border it are Indiana, Ohio, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.The climate for this state is humid continental.
